Putting in the Footings and Foundations

On Saturday, I began to install the foundation of the cabin.��Befor I could start, I had to move the huge log that would one day become the central support of the whole cabin.��I used the Explorer and a Block and Tackle to get it across the property.
I set the footings and prepared to get the bricks in place.��After dark, I went to Green Forrest to Tanners and got cement, cement blocks, all-thread and some 2x's to cap the posts with.��That evening I prepared the caps and the all-thread for the next morning.
Sunday morning, I set the cement blocks by noon.��I filled the centers of the bricks with 13 80-pound bags of cement.��As they set, I inserted the all-thread and put the 2x10 caps on top to hold them in place.
I wrapped the pillars in black plastic to help the cement cure better.
Most interesting was the even of getting the large 300 poud footing out of the Explorer.��I ended up tying it to a nearby tree and driving away, yanking it out of the back.��It went very smooth.
Sadly enough, I discovered that I had disturbed the home of a mother mouse and its offspring. Once I discovered it, I took a break and allowed the mother to relocate all her children and disappear into the distance.
