Docking at Disney's Private Island Castaway Cay

Back

We landed on Castaway Cay to an exciting surprise
Our veranda faced the island.  The view was incredible and the weather could not be beat.

The first thing to meet our eyes was the Flying Dutchman, the ship that was sailed in the second Pirates of the Caribbean movie by Davie Jones.  This was the ship that came up out of the water.

Well, the ship in the bay at Castaway Cay is the very ship that appeared in the movie.  As of this trip, the ship is set in the sand at the bay.

We spent a lot of our day on the island snorkeling in the area of the bay designed for that purpose.  If you go out about a third of the way, you will find the statue of Mickey Mouse under the water.  The statue is marked by a floating ball that is tied nearby.  When we were there the ball was white.

Unfortunately, we did not get any underwater photos.  There was a great eel or something in the grass behind the first lifeguard station on the right as you swim out.  There is a patch of seaweed there.  The eel I saw was VERY hard to see and I lost it several times.

It had the exact same colors as the weeds and the sand below.

Near the end of our stay, I rented a bike and rode around shooting pictures of the island.

The exclusive, adults only beach was nearly empty.  I printed that photo out at over 40 inches long and hung it on the wall.

When I was returning, I was going a bit slow.  I actually broke my foot a few weeks earlier and this was my first full day off my crutches.  I was in the process of shooting a photo of the 'town' are of the island where we eat and shop, etc.

One of the people who live on the island picked me up and had mercy on me.  She drove me all the way back to the ship and even stopped to let me get a last photo of the Flying Dutchman.
