Barnes and Noble; Harry Potter NEW Release party July 20 and 21, 2007 |
The final book of the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was released at midnight, the night of July 20, 2007. Barnes and Nobles around the country held a party to celebrate this release.
The festivities began at 8:00 in Corpus Christi, Texas with people in costume, contests, face painting and more. There were over a thousand people in the store and maybe even twice that. You could not move through the store without having to step over people or squeeze around others. The store was nothing less than packed! Personally, I don't think I have ever seen a store so packed for any event!
Amazingly enough, the staff at Barnes and Noble handled it in a champions fashion! The events kept people in good spirits and the costumes were fun to seek out. Of course, there were not enough comfortable seats, but we found some friends who were held up in soft chairs since earlier in the evening and they allowed us to share one as they shared the other.
To keep things orderly, Barnes and Noble distributed lettered tickets used to distribute the books after midnight. Those who had reserved books went first in groups of 50. They called Group A through O one after another, then those without reservations had their own Groups A through about I. The colored and numbered tickets kept the crowd orderly and when the time came, ready to work together. We were in Group C without reservations and we were called to the line at about 1:15 am.
As for the story, we have only read through chapter 7 and someone has died. We all know that was the case, but I will not spill the beans and tell you who. You must read the story for yourself!!
