2009 Ice Storm hits North West Arkansas with a VENGENCE!!
Back
|
We survived the big ice storm of 2009 with our brand new generator! |
This ice was up to 1 1/2 inches thick. 5 Trees fell on our cabin and countless others everywhere else! The Thaw started Friday with bright sun and a 37 degree high. Ahhhhh...
This is one of the largest branches that fell on the cabin... really shook us up a bit. No damage to the roof, but a minor bend on the dogs kennel. It is leaning against the air conditioner, but it did not do anything to it.
The ice stacked up to nearly 1 1/2 inches thick. Trees broke and bent everywhere!
At current count we have had 6 branches fall on the cabin and there are three that are just hanging up there ready to fall. The metal roof has proven to be a great investment for the security of the cabin. The only thing we worry about most is branches hitting the windows and breaking them!
3 steps forward, 2 steps back. After many months of work to clear the property this storm has set us back to square one, almost. The good thing is that we will have a lot of firewood next year!
That is Bailey Bear covered in almost 2 inches of ice!
This is what the ground is covered with... millions of pieces of branches covered with over an inch of ice!
This is our road, I have been keeping about 1 1/2 mile of it clear with our tractor. Branches trees and more! WOOF!
On Wednesday when the first sign of the sun came out, the river grew to three times its normal flow almost immediately.
Ice grenades and in the background over 3 inches of ice to scrape form the deck!
Everywhere looks like this!
Here is the road beyond our property. It is nearly impassable. I may try to clear some of it with the big tractor in the next day or two.
If you look carefully, you will see Jen's memory garden under all that mess. Normally there are hanging bird houses and feeders. We rescued the gazing ball before the onslaught got too bad.
The valiant tractor that keeps us in electricity during this time. We can hold about 50 gallons of diesel here now. That lasts us about a week.
More ice grenades. These were in the wheel barrow carrying ashes out to the compost pile... that is why they are so gray. less than 90 seconds before this picture was taken, they all fell within a few feet of me on that treacherous trip.
My wood shed collapsed... again. *pout Our Home Events David Place Date taken: 2009 02 02 08:03 Monday Important Links: |
